St. Marienthal Monastery (klasztor), Ostritz
St. Marienthal Abbey is the oldest nunnery of the Cistercian order in Germany. It has existed without interruption since its foundation in 1234. St. Marienthal has remained a living monastery to this day. In continuation of the long tradition, 12 nuns currently live, pray and work in the extensive grounds. As a monument of national importance, the monastery complex, which has been extensively renovated in recent years, is well worth a visit. The monastery church, the garden of biblical plants, the easternmost vineyard in Germany, the monastery tavern and the monastery market are particularly popular with visitors. There has been an education and conference center (IBZ) on the monastery grounds since 1992.
