Via Sacra from Crostwitz to Bautzen
In Crostwitz, it is worth taking a look at the church and the Way of the Cross along the cemetery wall before starting. The Jurij Brezan grave also catches the eye. The probably best-known Sorbian writer lived very close by, in Dreihäuser. The path first leads towards Prautitz and along the local connecting roads via Storcha and Dreikretscham, then along a field path that is also a cycle path, to the Millennium monument. These are the statues of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the apostles to the Slavs, who promoted the Christianization of the Slavic peoples in the 9th century. Continuing along the Via Regia on side roads via Oberuhna and Salzenforst. Trees often provide shade along the road and the view can wander far. In Bautzen, the pilgrim path crosses the Spree and ascends into the beautiful old town. An alternative route from the Millennium monument is the little road via Schmochtitz and Temritz to Bautzen.
